Tuition is free, but some charges might be necessary to cover for materials and incidentals. These elective courses do not have pre-requisites, so you can take them in any sequence. Please review our education overview, current boating course schedule and contact us to assist you with your questions and enrollment. Some courses may require multiple sessions.

Elective Course Description

Engine Maintenance
This practical course teaches engine systems (ignition, cooling, lubrication and transmission) in detail, but does not turn out trained mechanics. Rather it helps the boater operate and maintain a boat's power plant more safely and efficiently.

Marine Electronics
The aim of this course is to promote understanding of electrical and electronic equipment aboard a boat. More importantly, safety and legal responsibilities are emphasized. This course is essentially non-technical.

Sail
This course goes from the theory of sail, what makes the boat go, to handling one in heavy weather. Students learn to make the winds work for them, to get the most of out of a boat, and to use the rich vocabulary of sailing.

Weather
Students acquire the technical knowledge needed to interpret and apply the wealth of weather information now available via TV and radio. They will learn to make reliable short-range forecasts based on visual observations.

Speak and Teach
We are often faced with the need to communicate, whether it involves teaching for the Squadron or getting ideas across at a meeting. Students learn how to be effective speakers and how to employ various teaching aids.

Cruise Planning
This course covers the way a cruise is planned and how the boat is to be outfitted and supplied. Ideas are brought out for small and large boats, short and long cruises and the emphasis is on avoiding problems.

We are located in Naples, Florida.
